TAX WARS AND MILITARY SPENDING, GUESS WHAT WARS WOULD STOP

Congressman Mark Sanford

We are in the process of having a significant debate in the House of Representatives over $30 billion dollars in the budget. It’s real money. In fact, it’s the rough equivalent of the lifetime earnings of 30,000 Americans.

But if we could get at the waste highlighted in a recent Government Accountability Office Report – maybe we wouldn’t be having this fight. The number they raise is four times the thirty billion.

The report highlights how the federal government makes about $124 billion in improper payments each year. Money goes to people it shouldn’t….each and every year. It includes payments like mispaid tax benefits ($17.7 billion), Medicare payments with the wrong documentation ($46 billion), and errors in Social Security payments ($3 billion).

Take a look…you will be as frustrated as I am in reading this sort of thing…and reminded of the ways in which the ultimate way to make government more efficient lies in reducing its size.
